Thank you Sweetgreen for making it easier for me to run all my basic (food) runs in one place. Naturally, Sweetgreen’s newest location opened next door to the Wisconsin Avenue SoulCycle and is on the corner of Georgetown’s foodie haven, Grace Street & Wisconsin Ave. The corner is home to popular taco joint, Chaia, Dog Tag Bakery, Grace Street Coffee Roasters, SundeVich and South Block Juice Company.
Sweetgreen’s new store opening underscored life’s three truths:
people love free things
people love food
free food tastes better
To make things even sweeter at this new DC spot, Sweetgreen will host weekend farmers markets, with original local DMV partner FreshFarm, at its 1044 Wisconsin parking lot (corner of Wisconsin Avenue & Grace Street). The SG FreshFarm farm stand will be open Saturdays 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and will offer shoppers produce from long time family farm Hillside Meadow Farm in Southern York Country, Pennsylvania. The farm stand will have a variety seasonal fruits, vegetables, dairy/eggs and meats like lamb, chicken and beef.
The 2,242 square foot store is four times bigger than the original Sweetgreen, a 560 square foot hut on M street. The new location pays homage to the original Sweetgreen store and the company’s founders alma mater, Georgetown University.
Sweetgreen officially opens with salads for purchase tomorrow, September 15. All proceeds from opening week will be donated to a FreshFarm philanthropic initiative: an affordable CSA for members of the Ward 7 Southeast DC community. Rainbow Hill Farm, located in Charles Town, West Virgnia, will package boxes of certified-organic produce weekly at $10 a bundle. FreshFarm teachers will be onsite at Anne Beers Elementary School in Southeast to offer cooking demos, recipe suggestions and tips.
