Summit: a downtown DC rooftop destination

Looking for a relaxing spot to grab a quick bite or drink near the office? What about with views of the US Capitol and Washington Monument? Enter Summit – a rooftop bar & lounge that sits atop the new luxury Conrad Hotel in CityCenter DC.

Situated on the 11th floor, the space feels very private and you quickly forget that you’re in the middle of the city. Get comfortable in one of the lounge areas, take a seat at one of the tables with a view, or grab a stool right at the bar. Summit offers a selection of house cocktails, of which the Parisian Party (Dolin Blanc, La Colombe Cold Brew, Demerara, Absinthe, Soda) was the group favorite. Also offered are “on tap” cocktails (caution – these are addicting): the Aperol Spritz was a welcome refresher on a hot and humid DC day, and the Frozé was surprisingly delicious – not too sweet and the perfect way to cool down.

The Food

Summit also serves up a selection of shareable plates to snack on while you’re enjoying your drinks. The charcuterie platter comes with Serrano ham, green olives, bagel chips, giardiniera, cheese curds and mustard, all of which were delicious. The Cobia crudo is dressed in a lime vinaigrette, served with red onion, sweet potato, and corn nuts. Textures were wonderful, but the Cobia itself wasn’t as refreshing as I had hoped – it could benefit from a touch more acidity and slightly cooler temperature. Presentations, however, are on point all around.

If you’re on the hungrier side, definitely go for the bone-in short rib tacos (serves 2-3). These were hands down my favorite dish of the night. The tender short rib pulls apart easily with a fork, is rich and fatty, and is complimented by pickled cabbage and fresno chiles to balance it out. Served with cotija cheese and flour tortillas, the plate was left clean with little effort.

Other bites sampled included the 72 hour pot roast crostini and the Maryland crab mac & cheese. Although I wasn’t the biggest fan of either dish, they are crowd pleasers and work well for sharing on the rooftop. Take a look at the full menu here.
