Pumpkin & Spice: A Power Couple

I love fall. I love the clothes, walking the streets without sweating, and the festive treats that make you feel cozy the moment you dig in.

While the very controversial Pumpkin Spice Latte has taken center stage on pumpkin flavored treats, here is a list of other tasty creations that will jump start your season.

Pumpkin Muffin

At Uprising Muffin Company, the pumpkin muffin is served year round because deliciousness shouldn’t be reserved for September – November. But if you want to really elevate your hump day or want a brunch treat, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, the pumpkin muffins get topped with candied walnuts and a pumpkin-spice glaze.

Pumpkin Spice Cupcake

By far the best cupcakes you will find in D.C. is Baked & Wired. I could dedicate a whole post to my favorite flavors at this Georgetown joint, but for now I want to turn your attention to their seasonal pumpkin spice cupcake! The icing is sweet but it’s the perfect consistency and the cake just melts in your mouth. Wash it down with one of their expertly made lattes and stroll M street for a mighty fine fall afternoon.

Pumpkin & Sweet Potato Tart

This is a classic for a reason, it’s delicious! And while I’ve had my good share of different slices around the city, one that I keep coming back to is the slice at Kramerbooks. The pie consists of both spiced pumpkin and sweet potato. Then it adds in praline pecans, orange zest, caramel syrup, and raspberry purée. It comes served with a side of cinnamon ice cream. It’s the definition of a flavor bomb and the perfect way to end a meal.

Pumpkin Honeycomb Ice Cream

Fall in D.C. can mean a blissful 65 degrees or sometimes it can be a sweltering 85 degrees. On those warmer autumn days, Ice Cream Jubilee has you covered with their pumpkin ice cream spiced with cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg, and textured with crunchy maple honeycomb candy.

Pumpkin Risotto

Graffiato is always a great idea for inventive pastas and pizzas that are the perfect size to order a bunch of different kinds and share with friends, but it’s an ever better bet in the fall with festive favorites such as their pumpkin risotto. The risotto oozes cheese and is topped off with real pumpkin seeds for a nice bite.
