The iconic Occidental Grill & Seafood is proud to continue its 110th anniversary celebration with historic ‘throwback’ dishes and drinks, partnering with the National Park Service this August to help preserve historic lands and sites.
Occidental collaborates with the National Park Service, who is celebrating its 100th anniversary, to serve up the Arrowhead Old Fashioned (Buffalo Trace bourbon, Jerry Thomas Decanter Bitters, maple syrup), named after the National Park Service’s logo. 20% of sales of the Arrowhead Old Fashioned in August will be donated to the National Parks Fund. For guests craving seafood, they also added Lobster Thermidor to its Thursday evening menu during August.
If you’re craving a perfect Old Fashioned, look no further. The smooth Buffalo Trace is accented perfectly by the bitter and it’s natural sweetness is enhanced with the use of maple syrup as opposed to simple syrup. A rich twist on this classic that is executed perfectly.
Now, if you’re craving a traditional Lobster Thermidor, you may want to dust off Grandmother’s cook book! The traditional version of the dish combines lobster with creamy egg yolk, brandy or cognac served stuffed in its shell with a browned cheese crust. Very rich and luxurious…not exactly light summer fare if you catch our drift. Occidental smartly took this heavy classic dish and lightened it up. Their deeply flavorful dish, which originated in Paris in 1894, utilizes fresh 2-lb Maine lobsters and serves them with Parmesan foam, herb bread crumbs, and lobster tarragon bisque (as described in their release).
The lobster was perfectly cooked and tender, however as you can see, the Parmesan foam was more of a sauce, the “bisque” was a generous term for base plating sauce, and the dish is void of bread crumbs.
Still delicious, tender, light, fresh, and boasting with bold flavors, execution and menu description don’t always synchronize. In this case, that didn’t matter because it hit all the right notes on a hot August afternoon.
So head over to Occidental Grill & Seafood, just across from the White House and US Treasury Department this August for these two amazing specials!
