Wings, grilled cheese, and beer – what more could you ask for?
TallBoy opened recently on 9th St. in Shaw, filling a void in the area for a casual bar that serves up solid food at affordable prices. The menu is straightforward – wings and grilled cheese, and is served everyday until last call.
The wings are baked, but don’t let that deter you. They’re meaty, pre-rubbed, and generously sauced while hot. Lemon Pepper and General Tso’s are standouts, but you can’t go wrong with the classic Buffalo either. Make sure to check back frequently as the chef plans to continue adding new flavors to the lineup.
Grilled cheeses are lathered in butter before hitting the press, giving them a perfectly crisp outside with a gooey cheese inside. They’re served with potato chips and a cup of this addicting smoked tomato soup that is perfect for dipping.
If you’re familiar with the neighborhood, TallBoy opened in the space formerly home to Smoked & Stacked – and for any fans of the outgoing sandwich shop, Chef Marjie’s legacy lives on in the aptly named Smoked & Stacked grilled cheese, featuring her signature pastrami alongside sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing.
TallBoy is open weekdays from 3pm on, and weekends from 11:30am to close (2-3 am). Happy hour runs weekdays until 7pm, where you’ll find deals on TallBoys, drafts, wine, and well drinks.
