Tucked into DC’s posh neighborhood The West End, Squash on Fire provides access to brand new, gorgeous squash courts with no membership fees. Users pay per court, and they offer lessons, and a scaled down gym with plenty of room for stretching pre or post squash game. There are some small machines, but don’t come here looking to lift serious weights. The facilities, complete with showers and a full locker room, are modern, sleek, and they make you feel athletic just by being there…even if you have a cold beer in hand.
When you step off the elevator into the well branded facilities, to the left is your check in counter and straight ahead under a wall of TVs (which show live feeds from the courts as well as regular TV) is a modern gorgeous full bar with well set tables and chairs in front of it. To the left is a small sitting area for folks to prepare to play, and courts with glass interior facing walls line the left and right sides.
While the private lessons and group classes, and facilities themselves are great, we were blown away by the food. Literally everything we tried from their Upper West Side Cafe was beyond good, it was better than many traditional stand alone restaurants in DC. Case in point, it was the best, perfectly cooked flank steak dish we’ve ever had in Washington, DC.
Take a look at the gorgeous facilities and the #FoodPorn worthy dishes!
So forget your basic happy hour with friends. Grab a gym bag, book a small group clinic online, head to Squash on Fire and have some fun, burn some calories, and then have a drink. Trust us, the food will have you coming back just to eat here, with or without the squash!
Pro-tip: don’t come expecting to eat actual squash, we found it ironic they didn’t offer it on the menu!
