Revitalized Bar Menu At Rosa Mexicano

You may think you know the scene at Rosa Mexicano, but I’m here to tell you things are changing. Exciting things.

Earlier this month, General Manager Greg Eisenhart and Beverage Director Courtenay Greenleaf introduced a slew of new infused agave cocktails paired with their best bar bite selections.

Unlike many unremarkable Mexican restaurants, Rosa Mexicano crafts delicate agave cocktails with infused spirits, fresh herbs, and a variety of rimming salts that are as much a part of the beverage as the main ingredients. (One of their salts is even made from the crushed up tequila worm! It’s actually delicious). I tried the Spicy Cucumber and the Strawberry-Pink Peppercorn, and I honestly couldn’t decide which I liked best. The Cucumber was stunningly refreshing on such a hot summer day, and the Strawberry was tart and sharp, with a hint of sweetness. The latter seemed to be a big hit with the other guests. I would order both again.

Like most red-blooded humans, I needed to balance out my tequila with some sustenance. I tried the empanadas, crispy flautas and carnitas tacos. The empanadas were so-so, but the carnitas were outstanding; zesty and crispy, and paired expertly with juicy grilled pineapple.

I’ve consumed a lot of mediocre Mexican food and sugary margaritas in my short life, and I am pleased to report that Rosa Mexicano is not in that camp. The staff are well-educated on the history, production, and technique of mezcal and tequila distillation, and their expertise is evident in the care they put into their cocktails. Head down to Penn Quarter and check it out for yourself. It’s almost the weekend, after all.

Rosa Mexicano has happy hour daily from 4:00-7:00pm. Visit their website, like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter and Instagram.
