Present Company Public House, the new neighborhood bar and restaurant from the owners of The Pub & The People, opened August 10th in Mt. Vernon Square. Whether you’re just looking for a beer after work, or dinner and cocktails, Present Company has you covered.
The food menu has something for everyone. There are a ton of options for vegetarians, but don’t worry, there’s still burgers and steak frites for the carnivores out there. The crispy brussels sprouts were flavorful and had a bit of a kick (they come mixed with a ginger-sesame dressing and a spicy aioli). The crab gnocco (made with Chesapeake crab, potato dough, calabrian chile, and avocado) were another tasty appetizer. For entrees, the Roseda Farms Steak Frites stood out to us – the pimento tots were a particularly fun turn on classic fries.
There’s about a dozen beers on draft and a pretty large bottle/can list. When it comes to the cocktail list, there’s once again something for everyone. The menu is broken down by type of liquor, with two or three options within each. For the drinks, a particular stand-out was the Ruth Bourbon Ginsburg, made with Redemption Bourbon, Sweet Vermouth, Caraway, Coriander, White Pepper, and Lemon. A great summery option for patio weather was the La Sagrada Familia, made with Ivy City GIN, Aperol, Lime, Grapefruit, and a Green Chartreuse Rinse.
