O-Ku, the sushi brain child of Executive chef Bryan Emperor, an alum of Ten in Charlottesville, opens TODAY at 1274 5th Street NE. aka right in Union Market’s front-yard.
The 120-seat restaurant has a very modern, sexy feel to it with industrial finishes and the perfect edison bulb lighting. It will be a go-to spot for date nights and girls night alike. The restaurant has a downstairs dining room, second floor lounge, and a roof deck perfect for summer nights.
The menu has all types of sushi creations but also something for meat lovers too! O-Ku has binchōtan charcoal grills which will cook up spiced lamb chops, rib-eye steak, and beef short ribs.
We attended the soft opening last night and while the food was excellent, the bar program was also mighty impressive. I recommend grabbing a Sugar & Spice cocktail, which features a house-infused habanero vodka, and taking a seat in the sushi bar to watch the magic happen.
