Charming Neighborhood Brasserie Pleases the Whole Family
Mintwood Place, a DC staple in Adams Morgan, unveiled their new Family Meal menu, which is easy on the wallet and perfect for enjoying with loved ones and friends. The three-course, family-style feast is priced at $160 and offers guests a rotating list of five nibbles and starters, three entrées, two sides and five seasonal desserts to share, prepared by Chef de Cuisine Matthew Cockrell. Chef Cockrell’s French culinary background is apparent in the classic dishes, adding flair and finesse.
A sampling of the Family Meal menu at Mintwood Place begins with noshes such as Scotch Eggs with lamb’s breath and Chervil sour cream; Wagyu Beef Tartare with quail egg and pommes gaufrettes; Beet Carpaccio, and Smoked Salmon Rillette with toasted brioche. Entrees might include Wood-Roasted Chicken with Romanesco, cauliflower, fiddleheads and jus, Summer Risotto, and Trout Almandine with haricot verts and carrots.
I personally cannot stop thinking about the Scotch Eggs. Studded with fennel, the sausage that generously encases the egg is aromatic and supple. The accompanying salad of frisée and lardons is simple, but so satisfying – dressed just enough and perfectly balanced with plenty of fatty lardons to marry with the bitter frisée.
The beet carpaccio is also a must order – beets three different ways surround an island of creamy burrata and are topped with bursts of crunch from toasted hazelnuts and tangy pomegranate seeds.
The risotto is creamy and toothsome with explosions of flavor from seasonal fare, and the trout almandine is light and simple, with tender crisp vegetables and velvet fish filets.
For a sweet finish, indulge with Chocolate Pot de Creme; Key Lime Pie, or a selection of house-made ice creams and sorbets such as Vanilla-Brownie, Berry Swirl and Strawberry Rhubarb.
