A trip to Millie’s is a vacation for your tastebuds. I attended the Millie’s Grand Opening party, among notable guests including DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and 94.7 Fresh FM’s The Tommy Show Co-Host, Kelly Collis, and enjoyed a sprawling patio party with passed appetizers and an open beer & wine bar.
When I arrived fashionably late (still not sure why the office doesn’t close when Happy Hour begins) the patio was bustling.
Fun fact: Mille’s restaurant and patio used to house a Spring Valley gas station. As part of the restaurant’s renovation permit, the co-owners had to agree to maintain the original drive and gas station pump structure, as pictured above.
Fun Fact #2: You might be wondering, who is Millie? Madaket Millie Jewett was a longtime Nantucket resident, who rarely left the island. She was such a beloved member of the small island community, she eventually became a civilian member and long time volunteer of the Nantucket Coast Guard. Read Millie’s full story here.
Rich with history and flavor, Millie’s aims to bring authentic Nantucket flavors to DC with fresh coastal ingredients and recipes. We became good friends with Millie’s waiters, they were passing literal food porn in front of our eyes – the shrimp, guacamole crostini was my favorite.
Millie’s had me longing for summer in the first bite. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful and only could have been improved with a Nantucket backdrop. Chef David Scribner used the grand opening party to go “off menu” and showcase his favorite appetizers. Some of the items pictured below will not be available on the regular menu. Keep scrolling for menu items to look out for when you go.
At every restaurant/food establishment I visit, I read the menu like a book. Millie’s was no exception. These are the items that will have me returning to try dinner or brunch on the patio very soon!
