From the good people at Drink Company, who also brought us the Miracle on 7th Street and the Cherry Blossom Pop Up, comes their latest transformation, the Game of Thrones Pub. Right when you walk in you’ll be immersed in the sounds of Game of Thrones, with costumed staff and bartenders (and a few patrons), and surprises around every corner.
What used to be Eat the Rich is now loaded with banners from a dozen or so families.
What used to be Southern Efficiency is now the Hall of Faces – you might even see some you know, since the casts were made from friends and family of Drink Company.
And what used to be Mockingbird Hill is Winterfell with a prominent weirwood tree – complete with tears of blood.
Finally, in the back of what used to be Eat the Rich is a room of Daenery’s dragons, one of which breathes smoke every 20 minutes or so.
Now to the important stuff: the drinks. When the bar opens to the public today, the cocktail list will be more extensive, but we got to try six amazingly themed drinks that will place you right in the middle of the Seven Kingdoms.
First we tried What is Dead May Never Die: Green Hat gin, sherry, celery bitters, celery shrub, cane sugar, and sparkling water. This one is refreshing, especially if you’ve just been standing in line for 2 hours to get in.
Next we moved onto the Dothraquiri, which George R. R. Martin himself tweeted about. It’s Cotton and Reed white run, Jamaican rum, Banae du Brasil, creme de cacao, cane sugar, and lime. This one packs a punch.
As an added bonus, they’ll light the star anise on fire when they present it to you.
Next we tried the Lady Mormont which is Plymouth navy gin, Madeira, honey, passion fruit, Orgeat, Falernum, and lemon, served in a cute little bear glass. (PS if you’re ordering this one or the next one, you’ll be expected to give up your ID as a hold on the glassware so you don’t steal the cups.)
Moving on to The North Remembers. Not only was this one of the most impressive ingredient lists, it was one of the most impressive presentations, served in a custom horn mug. This guy was Highland Park 12 year, Oloroso, Cointreau, Falernum, coconut, and pineapple gomme. Almost like a Scotch Pina Colada. Don’t knock it til ya try it. You’re going to want to have this in hand for your Iron Throne photo op.
Now if you want a little theatrical performance with your presentation order the Shame: tequila with grapefruit tonic, and you’ll receive a set of fur and/or armor-clad bartenders ringing bells screaming “SHAME” at you. It’s really comforting. Delicious, too. You even get a little mini bell IN the drink.
Last but not least, we had the Milk of the Poppy, which is Armagnac brandy, dark rum, DC&F Concerto, coconut, pineapple, lime, and clarified milk. It’s the perfect way to end an evening.
Don’t worry. If you aren’t into cocktails, the GoT Pub also has a strong beer, cider, and wine list, and will be operating as a full bar.
