W Hotel POV Previews Spring Cocktail Menu

The W Hotel sure knows how to throw a good party! To celebrate the launch of their rooftop bar POV’s spring cocktail menu they had the “Rooftop Riviera” party this week with destination themed bars, beauty stations from Bliss Spa, snacks and a photo booth.

Awkward situation

With a perfect sunset and a magnificent view of the White House in the background, it was the right setting to kick the party off with a “Juice and Gin” – a refreshing combination of gin, lemon, grapefruit, and berries and garnished with a sprig of rosemary. Light and easy to drink, this will definitely be one of my picks to sip on a warm spring/summer evening. My friend Cecile described it as “a taste of summer in your mouth”, and I couldn’t agree more.

The party only got better from there. Oysters XO had oyster shuckers walking around with buckets of oysters on ice, and a variety of condiments (champagne, Bloody Mary, Tabasco, mignonette) giving people a taste of freshly shucked oysters from British Columbia. Definitely a wonderful party enhancer! So the next time you want a fleet of oyster shuckers for your party (‘cos who doesn’t?!), look no further than Oysters XO.

Another favorite cocktail of the evening was the “Smash and Run” – with rum, lemon, rhubarb, ginger and mint. Incredible flavor, and also a totally legit spring drink. I foresee many evenings with this drink in hand, gazing out at the magnificent view from POV.

If that wasn’t enough, the amazing Bliss Spa had set up beauty stations with samples of products, and describing the beauty treatments they have available for different skin types. They have some great Mother’s day specials coming up, so it’s a great time to book one of their treatment packages.

Other additions to the spring cocktail menu include the “Mexican Stand-off” with Tito’s vodka, Tequila, Mezcal and bitters, the “Awkward situation”, with Scotch, apple, lemon, ginger and egg white, and the “Feeling Groggy”, with Rum, lime, grapefruit and Dram. All interesting combinations, with something for everyone.

Finally, to satisfy that sweet tooth, Dolci Gelati was on hand with some beautiful flavors. My favorite was the honey fig mascarpone, but the “mojito” and “key lime pie” will be perfect for the dog days of summer. Pastry Chef and Owner Gianluigi Dellaccio was incredibly nice, explaining what goes into the making of a new flavor. Dolci’s brick and mortar store will be opening at the new City Market at O this summer.

All in all, a fantastic celebration to celebrate the arrival of spring.
