Vegetables Steal the Show at Olivia

Tucked beyond an awning on F St NW, between the Gallery Place and Metro Center stops, Olivia boasts a bright haven of Mediterranean food and natural light. The previous home to Nopa has kept the loved dinner rolls but upped the vegetable forward dishes to provide diners with a light but filling break from downtown steakhouses.

Both the beet salad with it’s pistachio vinaigrette and the broccoli with bright pops of pomegranate and seasonal apples are almost too pretty to eat. Rest assured, we did eat them, and you should, too.

The beef cheek moussaka is a beautiful, tender take on a comforting meatloaf of younger years. The meat melts in your mouth while the crisp vegetables keep you from sliding into an early afternoon nap. Without a doubt, the spaghetti squash (pictured above) was the universal favorite of the table. It was creamy and decadent with nutty notes from the cheese while still making you feel like you weren’t being too indulgent.

Leave room for dessert, especially the pastry purse filled with apples and adorned with fresh ice cream.

Keep this gem in mind for private celebrations, post museum dinners, and business meals as it houses both artfully curated communal dining and private rooms that can host groups.
