Airy and light with distinctly fruity notes, District Winery‘s newly released rosé tastes just about as good as it looks against a Navy Yard sunset. At the blend’s release party on Sunday, DC came out to celebrate the drink of choice for those of us who prefer to balance the hot and humid summer days of the District with a cold and crisp vino.
The venue, which opened just two blocks from Nats Park last August, lent itself well to a celebration for the drink that has reigned as “The Summer Drink to Be Seen With” for more than a decade. A live band, mobile oyster shucker and ice cream from neighborhood favorite Ice Cream Jubilee kept attendees hands and feet busy throughout the evening, and the winery’s wrap-around balcony provided the perfect setting to sip on DC’s first homemade blush.
Apart from its undeniable Instagram potential and traditionally chilled serving, it’s actually rosé’s inclusion of sweet and citrus fruits that have earned the blend its now-famous nickname: Summer Water.
