Georgetown Gem: Brunch at The Grill Room

Spring is right around the corner and every Washingtonian knows this is when our city is at its finest. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, Nats games begin, beer gardens fill up and everyone’s favorite returns – spring patio brunches. While it was a bit cold for the patio on February 27, we got an exclusive taste of award-winning Executive Chef Frank Ruta’s spring menu at The Grill Room, located in Georgetown’s luxurious Capella Hotel.

Our brunching companions? Why the bitches, of course.

A proud partner of Capella, the Bitches Who Brunch can do no wrong when it comes decadent meals and mimosas. The Grill Room sits elegantly along the Georgetown Canal and was the perfect location to gather D.C. foodies and fashionistas for a tasting.

The meal began with a bubbling mimosa in Capella’s elegant Rye Bar, where I also sampled their fantastic oaked-aged Manhattan.

We were then led into the dining room by the lovely head bitch, Cori Sue Morris. The spacious room was bright from sunlight pouring through the windows and the modern candelabra chandeliers. After settling in the cushioned burgundy chairs, we struggled to select our starters – everything looked scrumptious. I opted for the kobocha squash, sprouted barley and mushroom soup with Maine bouchot mussels.

The barley was perfectly cooked and paired well with the creamy soup, while the sweet mussels elevated the flavor to delicious new heights. A few rounds of mimosas later, our entrees arrived. I was delighted with my choice of the salt cod and potato omelet with testa, piquillo sauce and labne. I’m not usually a fan of peppers, but the flavor was fabulous with the dish.

When we brunched until I thought we could brunch no more, in flooded plates of dessert. From affogato to lemon madeleines, this menu could satisfy any sweet tooth. I was a fan of the platter of assorted cookies and candies.

Overall, the service was supreme, the décor beautiful and the atmosphere perfect for an elegant Saturday morning meal. The Grill Room is a Georgetown gem and Frank Ruta’s menu is certainly worth the trip. On the first sunny spring day that hits the district, dress up, grab your bitches, flock to Capella’s patio, order mimosas and brunch.
