#BreakFromTheBeltway: Broad Appetit – Yet Another Reason To Visit Richmond

I-95 is the worst. I know. North or South, doesn’t matter, it’s a hard sell to get us District Dwellers to take the road well traveled.

But Richmond’s worth it. Less than 100 miles from our nations capitol, RVA is hustlin’, bustlin’ city fit for those looking to kick back with a good meal, cold beer, and some quality river time.

But where to start?

Thanks to Broad Appetit the decision is easy. You start on Broad Street.

In its 10th year, Broad Appetit brings together the Holy Trinity of what makes Richmond great: the beer, the food, and the culture.

Did we mention the food?

The brisket taco from Tazza Kitchen.
There’s nothing wrong with a little pimento cheese and Ritz crackers.
Mushroom + Dumpling = Delicious

Or the culture?

When in Richmond, one must eat gator.
More than five blocks of Broad Street are sectioned off for Broad Appetit. Plus, it’s a popular ticket.
Everyone can ride the Recycling Bus.

There’s something to be said about wandering aimlessly down a major road with nowhere to go and nothing to do other than sampling small, $3 plates of what the Richmond food scene has to offer. And there’s plenty.

Richmond gets love as the “Next Austin,” and it’s easy to see why. Hot spots like the Quirk Hotel (an art lovers paradise where I stayed…and loved), the hotel’s Maple & Pine, breweries like Ardent and Isley, and the stunningly beautiful and Belle Isle provide the weekend traveler with plenty to see, plenty to do, and a reason to dust off that E-ZPass.
