Jose Andres Beefsteak, Dupont Circle

The second location of Beefsteak, Jose Andres’ vegetable focused restaurant is now open in Dupont Circle in what was earlier a conference room in a bank. Let me say though, there are no remnants of that conference room anymore! The space is now open and bright, with milk crates hanging from the ceiling, colorful vegetable murals on the walls, and a beautiful tile backsplash.

At Beefsteak, vegetables take center stage. If you have been to the first location in Foggy Bottom, you know what to expect. The focus on the menu is on grain bowls, combining vegetables, grains, house-made sauces, topped off with fresh toppings and crunch. There is also a salad option and a “burger” made with a thick slice of tomato instead of a patty. Although there are preset bowl options available, I highly recommend making your own. Pick your choice of vegetables, all of which are flash cooked in hot water, add on a grain (I love the bulgur), choice of sauce (tomato, cilantro, garlic yogurt, etc) and add on toppings (the kimchi and seaweed salad are great! Gazpacho and fresh juices are also available.

Although you won’t miss the meat, you can add chicken sausage, egg, or salmon if you want. Either way, you will change your mind about vegetables- the combination of the cooking method, sauces, toppings and delivery make for a fun meal, and a different experience each time. And even if you don’t “change your mind, you will at least eat them.

Beefsteak will also be switching up to new fall additions soon. I’m looking forward to the warm fall soups that are going to be added!

Last but not the least, Beefsteak Dupont has beer on tap- a rotating selection of local craft beer.
