The Best and Worst Dressed of the 2016 American Music Awards

The American Music Awards were on television last week and the red carpet fashion did not disappoint. Now, the AMA’s are not exactly the Grammy’s but they are an easy indication of whether you are seriously out of touch with Pop music (who were half of these people?). This year the awards show was co-hosted by model Gigi Hadid and SNL comedian Jay Pharaoh. As awkward as the opening dialogue was, the fashion choices made by the stars on the red carpet were even more confusing. Here is a look at the best and worst dressed of the 2016 American Music Awards!

First, we have to give major props to the host of the show, model Gigi Hadid. Gigi had six wardrobe changes and they were all GORGEOUS! These looks were impeccable and I love that she used two of my favorite designers, Versace and Julien MacDonald. Well done hostess with the mostest.

WORST DRESSED

The Worst Dressed list was sadly very long. I even left a few people out. Some stars on this list consistently make poor choices on the red carpet, Heidi Klum sigh, but others are always well dressed and shockingly fell short (Ciara and Karli Kloss, what?). Overall, the big mistakes of the night were ill-fitting frocks, bad materials, unflattering designs and way too much skin. Next time ladies, next time.

BEST DRESSED

BEST DRESSED WOMEN

Sadly, the worst dressed largely outweighed the best dressed but these ladies were the hits of the night. The AMA’s are definitely a fun award show, so it is the perfect place to take risks and be edgy. High slits and metallics were perfect for this sexy red carpet, but the occasional pretty gown, like this red Prada on Selena Gomez, is also a great fit. You have to be weary not to be too formal at a music award show like the American Music Awards and these women struck the perfect balance.

BEST DRESSED MEN

The Best Dressed men each got a nod for different reasons. James Bay gets a win for being ultra millennial-hip and taking risks that totally paid off. Pharaoh gets a best dressed award because he looks so classic and handsome in this suit. Sting makes the list because, even at his age, he still has the coolest style around. He is laid back, yet so on point. Way to go guys! I am impressed.

WORST OF THE NIGHT

I think my choice for Worst of the Night is pretty self explantory. I undertsand that Z Lala is trying to be quirky and an envelope pusher but she could have done that with this dress alone. The hair was just ridiculous. I should have given the award to Heidi Klum because she never learns her lesson, but for now the titles stays with Z Lala for her Dr. Seuss-like hair and her dominatrix dress.

BEST OF THE NIGHT

The Best of the Night goes to Gigi Hadid. Say what you will about her future as a stand-up comedian, but with her perfect hair, makeup and wardrobe Gigi was the real winner of the night. She looked fun, young, flirty and glamorous. PERFECT.
